Yoga as part of your life

Babies are born yogis. Once we were all able to pull our toes up by our ears and laugh about it. Then we aged, got injured, began carrying stress in our shoulders and back. In short, we lost our balance. Yoga is an ancient practice that helps create a sense of union in body, mind, and spirit. It brings us balance.
We recommend practicing hatha yoga at least twice a week, but we consider yoga to be part of one's daily life because after awhile you no longer just practice yoga - you live it.
Your body grows stronger, more toned, and more flexible as you move from one asana-or pose-to the other. "Rather than building muscle, yoga builds muscle tone," says Shakta Kaur Khalsa, author of the K.I.S.S. Guide to Yoga. "Because yoga helps maintain a balanced metabolism, it also helps to regulate weight. Additionally, yoga stretches muscles lengthwise, causing fat to be eliminated around the cells, thus reducing cellulite."

Yoga teaches you to focus on breathing while you hold the poses. This attention to breath is calming; it dissolves stress and anxiety. I use yogic breathing on the tennis courts, in the dentist's chair, when I'm stuck in traffic.
You should always leave a yoga practice feeling energized, not tired. If you feel tired after yoga, it means you spent the time "fighting" yourself, trying to force yourself into poses. In yoga, you "surrender" to the pose by letting go of the tension.
Yoga is practiced by people from all religions; it is nondenominational. Yoga teaches "right" living in how we deal with ourselves and others. As you work on a difficult pose, you learn patience, forgiveness, and the value of gentleness. Yoga advocates proper eating, but you don't have to be a vegetarian to practice yoga.

The Yoga and The Athlete

One 40-year old athlete, a woman named Natali, had knees and lower back constantly ailing but of course, that didn't stop her "type A" personality from plugging along and doing what she loved most: swimming, biking and running. Striving to find the remedy to all her aches and pains, she went to see a battery of doctors which included Chiropractors (ART), Physical Therapists, Orthopedists, Acupuncturists, etc. She had tried it all and although she did see some results in relieving her ailments while under the care of all of these different types of doctors, she found that their techniques alone just gave her temporary relief. Once she started putting on the mileage again, the back spasms and the knee pains started to creep up again and again.
Then one day, a friend of a friend suggested that she try yoga. Natali looked at her and thought she was nuts and that’s NOT for her, much too relaxing. She went on to say that the owner, Lorraine (head yogi) of the Yoga studio was also a Physical Therapist and that she could definitely help her. Lorraine’s knowledge of the anatomy and understanding injuries was what made Natali give it a shot. She went for a private consultation with a yoga teacher and found that her biggest problem was her weakened core and she told her that through the practice of Anusara Yoga which focuses on body alignment, she would be able strengthen all the weak areas in her body, specifically core, and lower back, as well as knees.

And so, with an open mind, Natali began the classes and much to her amazement, she discovered, in a one hour session the hidden secret to core strengthening, mega stretching, flexibility, range of motion, serious concentration and balance improvement! She also found that her knowledge of what she thought yoga was, "relaxing", was not entirely correct. It takes an enormous amount of strength to engage all the muscles isometrically, and hold a pose for 5 LONG breaths. Think of it as hugging all your muscles to the bone and isolating them while holding the pose and trying not to tip over. Not an easy task! However, over time, Natali discovered that the practice of yoga is striving to find a balance between effort and ease and isn’t that what all of the athletes strive for? She found the focusing aspect to be very similar to triathlon training and racing. As an athlete who has completed many thriathlon distances, including one Ironman, the amount of concentration and composure that one needs to maintain during training and especially on race day is tremendous! Also, the breath is very critical in yoga as it is in triathlon. In the midst of the challenge of achieving a pose, finding the ease in the breath is key. Similar to when you are out there doing all those open water swims trying to concentrate on the rhythm of your breath and not on what creatures are lurking below the dark waters! And maybe the most important aspect of yoga that Natali discovered, in addition to building strength, is the stretching. Let’s face it, most of us don’t take the time to stretch before or after our bike rides or runs and this can cause many problems down the road. In yoga, while you are engaging all those muscles, and focusing on not falling over, and breathing, you are also stretching your limbs in opposite directions….very challenging!
After 4 months of practicing Natali could see the difference in her body, especially in the core area and flexibility. She no longer lived with nagging lower back aches, muscle spasms or constant knee pain.

Daily yoga classes are helping to struggle against the job stress

Twenty minutes of yoga a day remove the feeling of stress by more than 10 percent and improves the quality of sleep, according to U.S. physicians. To minimize the impact of external stressors on the organism, the Ohio State University experts offer regular yoga practice for at least 20 minutes a day, but for best results - for an hour daily for at least eight weeks.

Researchers say that yoga can be practiced directly at work. Some volunteers took place in the experiment: every day they were doing yoga and meditation in the working environment during the lunch break. Doctors analyzed saliva samples for testing for the presence of the main stress hormone - cortisol. After six weeks, a significant decrease in the impact of stress on well-being of participants was observed. Also, it's reported that, through yoga, people went to sleep much easier.

Since it is proved that chronic stress is associated with the development of serious diseases, the experts are focused on reducing the impact of daily stressors on health. It was found that daily practiced yoga reduces levels of stress hormones, regulates sleep, prevents daytime fatigue, positively impacts on specific types of stress, is a good means of relaxation at work and monitors breathing. Also, yoga classes allow increasing focus on job responsibilities by 9,7% and reducing job stress by 11%. Clinicians of the Massachusetts University believe that yoga helps getting rid of the symptoms of depression, anxiety and chronic pain.

What is Global Mala Yoga for Peace?

Global Mala Yoga for Peace is an international project, whose idea is to unite yogis societies from all the continents, schools and styles in order to create “mala around the Earth", in other words, by using the collective practice enclose the circle of energies around the planet to support beneficent world action. Funds earned during this action will be passed to the hospitals, orphanages, etc. The participants are people practicing and interested in yoga, who are eager to reach harmony inside and all over the world, and who can not remain indifferent to children suffering from spinal curvatures. On this day, yogis all over the world will join together to realize the following actions:

  • 108 Sun salutes

  • 108 Om mantras

  • 108 Meditation minutes

This will be 4 hours of practice, joint execution of Om mantras, a show, and trade exhibition of hand-made things! People who take part in this action will have a unique possibility to get acquainted with yogis from their country as well as with foreign ones, practice yoga under guidance of leading teachers and enjoy energy of movement.

The following countries took place in the Global Mala Yoga for Peace project during the previous years: the USA, Brazil, Mexico, Croatia, Czechoslovakia, Great Britain, Germany, Netherlands, Kenya, SAR, Tanzania, Japan, Thailand, Australia, Canada and others.

The practice is adapted to all levels! Be the sun-ray for those who need this most of all!

Why “Sun Salutes"?

The "Sun Salutes" set of exercises covers all the human physiology: mind, body and breath. It strengthens and stretches the main groups of muscles, anoints the joints, improves spine's condition and massages the internal. Blood starts flowing faster, circulating around the whole body. The circle consists of 12 light yoga postures, which are fulfilled in an accurate order one by one. Each movement should be synchronized with breathing. The perfectness of these exercises is explained by that fact that these are directed to improvement of the whole body's functionality.

What is "mala"?

Mala is a beads, usually consisting of 108 grains. Malas made of Tulasy wood or Runraksy seeds are most commonly used. Beads are different in size and arranged in the size descending order. Each bead is tied up with knots, so that even if the beads are torn, no one bead will be lost. Counting out starts from the largest bead and finishes with the smallest one.

The Global Mala Yoga for Peace project plans holding practices in the countries all over the world on the autumnal equinox day, where each country will present one part (grain) of the international mala. The main purpose of the project is to «plant» this grain of mutual understanding, love and empathy all around the world!

Indian Yoga in Mexico

The recently opened Mandarin Oriental Riviera Maya hotel, which had already established itself as one of the best beach hotels of Mexico, in October will present a new option - courses of Indian yoga.

Hotel Mandarin Oriental Riviera Maya is located on the Caribbean coast, close to the legendary cities of ancient Mayan civilization - Chichen-Itza, Coba and Tulum. Mandarin Oriental Riviera Maya is a perfect luxury base to explore these mystical places.

And in October, here the courses of Indian Yoga - Wellness Yoga Retreat - will be open. Hotel guests will get the exclusive opportunity to renew their mind, body and soul with the help of an experienced Indian yoga instructor Rishi Baradvadzha from ancient dynasty of yogis. According to him, the proximity of the ancient magic Mayan civilization will help reinforce the positive effects of yoga, since at these locations a very strong atmosphere had been created, which in itself contributes to the spiritual and physical growth.

The history of yoga.

According to archaeologists, the ancient 5,000-year old figures carved in stone which were found in India, represent the image of a meditating yogi. The figure is shown seated with legs crossed and resting on his knees with his hands. The discoverer of this blueprint – an archaeologist Sir John Marshall - called this figure Shiva Pashupati. The first written mentions of yoga are found in ancient religious book "Rigveda" - one of four collections of Vedas - the sacred books of Indian priests (Brahmans). Scientists estimate the age of this book is approximately 3,500 years (though, the Indians believe that these books existed since the beginning of creation). And this is not the only descriptions of the concepts and teachings of Yoga of such impressive antiquity. In various ways, the term "yoga" is used in the well-known Bhagavad Gita. Gita is a holy book of Hindu culture and literature monument of the IV century B.C. Among the many possible topics of yoga in the Gita, the greatest attention is paid to the following three:

Karma Yoga: yoga of activities

Jnana Yoga: yoga of knowledge
Bhakti Yoga: yoga of devotion

An influential commentator on Indian literature - Madhusūdana Saraswati divided eighteen chapters of Gita into three sections, six chapters each. According to his method of dividing the first six chapters are Karma Yoga, which is the intermediate part, a bridge between actions and their results, and the last six on the contrary have the attitude to the immediate result that Saraswati called knowledge (Jnana). Mid is the six chapters of Bhakti. Later this system was accepted by some and rejected by other commentators.

Before you begin to reasonably know about yoga, there is something more than just "yoga - this is from India." It has only once get acquainted with the history of yoga as a desire to learn more asanas and pranayama will move deeply into your heart, where nothing will be able to beat this out, even the incredible complexity of some of the exercises.

So, let's start.

In the never-existing land Arctis, the most ancient civilization of the planet, a knowledge was born. When Arctis disappeared after the accident, the survivors of several generations of residents gave it to the best minds in three continents - Hittis, Pacifis and Atlantis. But the time has passed, and these worlds has gone, too. And the knowledge had passed in Ancient Egypt, and then - in the pre-Aryan Indian culture. People of pre-Aryan India created images, which in the light of modern science may be called the images of yogis. It was four and a half thousand years ago. A thousand years B.C. ago, in the valley of the Ganges, the Indo-Aryan culture appeared. In the 5-6 centuries B.C., its sages created the sacred books of the Vedas, then – comments of Upanishads, giving a powerful impetus to the development of philosophical thought. Time passed, and the idea was vested in action: so, the six brahman darshanas, six philosophical systems were born. Their names are Mimansa, Vedanta, Sankhya, Yoga, Nyaya and Vaisheshika. Yoga is considered by all other systems as a general method and means of knowing the world.

As a philosophical knowledge, it came to us from the last third of the first millennium B.C., and as the myth - from the ancient civilization. It is even older than the most ancient ones in the sense of being born from the legend. Do you feel what you are going to do? Over this thing the time has no power. In the language of yoga the world itself is talking to you, in all its firmness, which attracts and impresses.

In the modern world everything is much more prosaic. If not take into account everything written above, one can even think yoga is nothing more than fashionable global passion having come from India. In America, Europe, Russia and Asia, there are a lot of schools and branches, these are multiply as flies. If look at this from outside, it will be unpleasant. “What does it have, that the whole world is mad of it? Nonsense.” No. You just look at this from inside – tantra, karma, yantra, laya will help you, and all the ancient continents, too.

Let's apply to historical roots, yoga learning sources. Scientific tradition imputes the separation of yoga learning as independent system to a legendary Indian sage Patanjali (11-1 centuries B.C.). Patanjali separated yoga in the independent system on the basis of already existent knowledge and experience collected by yogi experts. In his transactions called “Yoga-Sutra”, Patanjali expounds philosophy and practice of that yoga, which is considered the classic one by the most of explorers. According to ancient sages' tradition, Patanjali does not pretends to an authorship in creation of yoga philosophic system. He just collects oral data reached him, and commented on these in the spirit of a unified doctrine. Philosophical terminology and interpretation of the practice of yoga given in the “Yoga-Sutra" is also coordinated with the authoritative texts of the Vedas and Upanishads.

In the original teachings of Patanjali, Yoga is divided into eight parts:
1) yama - restrictions in relationships with people and with nature;
2) niyama - Instructions of lifestyle;
3) asana - a variety of postures and body poses;
4) pranayama - breathing exercises associated with energy accumulation;
5) pratyahara - control and easing of the perception flow, mental relaxation;

6) dharana - concentration of thought;
7) dhyana - meditation, controllable stream of consciousness;
8) samadhi - the perfection of mind, knowledge of absolute truth. Changed, ecstatic state of consciousness.

If the nose is not breathing.

In yoga, breathing through the nose is paid much attention. The fact is that the nasopharynx is located closely to the cerebral hemispheres. Therefore, active nasal breathing stimulates the frontal lobes and, therefore, can awaken the dormant areas of the brain. According to observations of yogis, it develops the mind, improves memory and concentration, and sometimes awakens the hidden human capabilities, such as intuition and even clairvoyance.

In yoga, there is a special procedure of nose purification (neti), which is an integral part of the 6 main yogic purification practices (shatkarma-kriya). Here is a simple version of it, which does not require special preliminary training or special yoga asceticism.

So, the first step is to rinse the nostrils with water, releasing them from lumps of solidified nasal mucus. To do this, lightly draw water into the nostrils, and then forcibly blow it out. Usually, together with mucus, it also washes away the dust and dirt filtered by nose during breathing.

Then, perform the second step - nasal water abstersion. In yoga it is called Jal-neti. Fill a small teapot with warm, a little bit salty water (the ratio is 1 teaspoon to 0.5 liters of water). Stand over the sink, and while bending your head to the right insert the spout into the left nostril. Then, slowly pour water which gradually begins to flow from the right nostril. At this time, breathe through the mouth. If everything is done correctly, the water automatically flows from the bottom nostril, washing the nasopharynx. After a short rest, incline your head to the left and repeat the procedure from the right nostril to the left.

Lavage is a useful procedure, but remember that our nose is still for breathing. Therefore we need the third step - cleaning of the nose and thin nasal passages with air. This is carried out by the following exercise: inhale gently through the «difficult» nostril and exhale through the «easy» one (anuloma-viloma pranayama). Repeat several times, then relax a little.

The effect of this exercise is based on the fact that a thin stream of cool air activates circulation in the nasopharynx system, and it helps cleaning the nostril very quickly. It is useful to carry out the procedure of nose cleaning just before the exercise. Cold air slightly narrows the blood vessels, that is, acts as the nasal drops, but unlike medicines, it does not have side effects. If you do the exercise regularly, it's possible to completely get rid of colds with time.

Sometimes the «difficult» nostril opens if you lie on the opposite side for 3-5 minutes. A regular massage of nose wings near the bridge of nose is also helpful. Remember that nasal breathing is very helpful for the brain, so it is better to try to clean the «difficult» nostril. Gradually the habit of nasal breathing is fixed, and eventually you'll breathe by nose absolutely freely.

The world's capital of Yoga

Rishikesh is an Indian city which fairly gained the name of world's capital of yoga.

Being edged from three sides by the foothills, the city lies at an altitude of 356 meters above sea level. The Holy Ganges runs through the city, and along its sandy shores, there are numerous ashrams. This is a perfect place for those who wish to temporarily leave the bustle of modern life and explore yoga, meditation and other aspects of Hinduism. The city gets its popularity also by the fact that in the sixties "The Beatles" came here to study with Maharishi Mahesh.

Rishikesh is one of the places directly connected to the Holy Ganges river. According to Hindu beliefs, the Ganges was born by Shiva and represents its vital force. For Hindus the river Ganges is presented in feminine gender and is associated with the female deity - the Ganges Atri, whose symbolic sculptural image is displayed on one of the guts on the river-bank. A gut is a ritual staircase, descending to the holy pond, where the believers make a ceremony of gifts and purification (Puja). Believers light lamps brought to the Ganges merge into a sea of lights, and it is impossible to remain indifferent while looking at this great unity of believers' spirit with the holy river.

In numerous restaurants of Rishikesh, it is impossible to find meat dishes, and a huge fish swimming in the waters of the Ganges is not caught by people.
Fish of the Ganges is considered sacred, and many pilgrims feed it because it is considered a welfare.
The city is also considered to be a «gateway» to the Himalayas. It starts out the routes deep into the mountain system, to a famous mountain temples. This place is considered sacred, and on the beliefs, a meditation held here will certainly lead to the achievement of nirvana.

Two parts of the city, separated by the Ganges, are joined by a famous suspension bridge - Lakshman Jhoola. According to beliefs, the suspension bridge has been existing here since the times of Ramayana and every time someone stepped on it, the bridge began to swing heavily.

In Rishikesh, they pray daily to all 33 thousands of Hindu gods, however not all of these gods are dedicated with the temples.

The most part of the city temples are dedicated to the Vishnu and Shiva gods, of course. Thus, the Bharat Mandir - the oldest temple in the city is dedicated to the Vishnu god.
A temple of Nilkanth Mahadev is built on the place where Shiva drank a poison threatened to destroy all life. Many ashrams offer their assistance to those wishing to try their-selves in yoga and meditation. Signboards glisten everywhere. There are large many-storied ashrams, as well as small huts also proudly named ashrams.

But one ashram stands out from the others for its blooming and well-groomed beauty. This is Parmat Niketan. Now it is the most famous and largest ashram in Rishikesh.
It seems that this is where the legendary "Beatles" met the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi guru, by what made a great contribution to the glory of Rishikesh.

On the background of the whole plain city, Parmath Niketan sparkles like an emerald in the sun. Lots of flowers and greens, beautiful fairways and mighty Banyans, marble statues and openwork lattice. On the main entrance, in the waters of Ganges, there is a white statue of Shiva, by which every evening at sunset a colorful ceremony with songs and dances takes place. This ashram has even a website, parmath.com.
Of course, on the streets of Rishikesh you can find many yogis, or, to say it more precisely, sadhu, strangers. An essential features of them are orange garb, many beads and a big mug for handouts. The greater part of the day they spend on the streets, sitting under the hot sun and unobtrusively asking for help. Although not all of them are carefree and happy. Most of them have to literally fight for survival, as there are not so much people who are willing to help them. Ongoing shortages of food, care, etc is a common event. Despite of this, none of them had lost spirit, no one is embittered to the world. They are all friendly and good-natured, always happy to sit with you and chat. For someone who arrived to India at first time, it is unusual to see such good and always smiling people. Entrusting their fate to divine providence, these nameless heroes bravely go on unknown ways, remaining faithful to their ideals. People for whom religion is not fun and not an empty phrase but a living reality.

Yoga Tourism in Turkey

Turkish tourism in search of an alternative to the system of "all inclusive" applied to a "yoga tourism." Professor Akif Manaf, the founder of the Academy of Yoga in Turkey said that the latest trend in tourism is to combine leisure with the procedures of the SPA and yoga. Yoga Academy periodically organizes the "yoga camps" in different parts of the country, to give people a chance to experience nature via yoga. Many people go to the mountains and the nature to practice yoga, to get rid of the negative effects of urban life. Mr. Manaf said that the Academy organizes the year-round camps, where the courses last from two days to a week.

For example, the program of yoga seminars may include the following events: “Practice, recreation, swimming, traveling on the yacht, delicious vegetarian Turkish cuisine, Hammams (local baths), communication. These would be the days full of valuable practice, rest, sun, sea, communication with friends and surrounding elements. You would get the answers to your questions, revise your practice, attitude towards yourself and surrounding space, widen your picture of universe, using the "puzzles" which will form in your mind as a result of such the informational-practical seminar.”

Today there are camps in Antalya, Fethiye, Kemer, Bodrum, and the mountains of Ida.

Bhakti Yoga - the science of our era

For centuries, Bhakti was followed by the great sages, holy men and kings. Prominent poets of the past dedicated wonderful poems and songs to the glory of God, and praised a pure love for the Lord.
Nowadays, the Bhakti Yoga (a relationship with God through a faithful service of him) becomes even more relevant and valuable than thousands years ago. Because now people have neither the time nor the ability to meet the requirements of any other host system of Yoga. But the method of Bhakti is quite simple. The Bhakti Yoga will help us develop a truly high qualities in ourselves and find what everyone strives living in a material world - the eternal life, eternal happiness, and eternal knowledge.
Practicing of Bhakti-yoga is available to everyone, whoever he could be. There's no need to retract from the world, keep house, family and work or go to great expense. You need only one – to give Lord Krishna the most important place in our lives. He should be the one we devoted all of our thoughts, desires and deeds. We will achieve this if we repeat, with love and devotion, a sacred name of God – the Hare Krishna Maha-mantra, follow the prescribed limits, read the Bhaktivedanty Swami Prabhupady books and eat only what was first presented to our Lord as a sign of our love.

International Festival of Yoga in Bali

Despite of the frustration of Muslim religious figures, on the Indonesian island of Bali, the International Festival of Yoga was open in March, 2009. Since January, it was announced that the Muslims are prohibited from engaging in yoga, as it includes elements of Hindu religious rites - such as reading mantras. Nevertheless, the festival was held, and that's great.

Organizers of the International Festival argue that it stands outside of any religious teachings and denominations, and aims to not only deliver the benefits of a popular recreational practice to the widest possible audience, but also to prove that yoga is not contrary to Islam. «This festival has a universal value. It does not belong to any religious teachings, »- said the representative of the festival organizing committee Susi Andrini.

According to organizers, the festival took more than 500 people from the United States, Germany, Sweden, Japan, China and other countries.

What is Tri-Yoga?

"The manifestation of Kundalini in Hatha yoga is known as Kriyavati. One who experienced Kriyavati starts spontaneously making various asanas of Hatha Yoga under the influence of newly originated power. The practice of Hatha yoga includes asanas, pranayama, and mudras. Yoga practices evolved from Kriyavati are natural. When practicing them for some time, they will help raising Kundalini."
Devatma Shakti

Tri Yoga is an original yoga, because it is a cosmic force of creation manifested in the World Trinity. Sat-Chit-Ananda - one of the names used in the Tri Yoga. It means three energies which are an integral part of each of us: Sat (Existence), Chit (Knowledge), Ananda (Bliss). All the great spiritual teachings mention Universal Trinity. Tri is a triple eternal principle, which pervades all the universe. Yoga means Unity, Harmony and Balance. Tri Yoga is a union of body, mind, and spirit. This fully versatile system includes three main aspects: the physical practice, breathing, dynamic concentration (meditation). All these three aspects are important and inconceivable without each other. Tri Yoga is a soft, plastic, continuous flow of exercises - one is derived from another. It is a combination of dynamic kriyas and static asanas. Tri Yoga is the divine energy that reflects the essence of Devi Sri Chakra.
Traditionally, the knowledge of yoga is passed from teacher to student. Guru plays a vital role in the spiritual behaviour of the student, pointing the correct way to him. As someone who sincerely wants to learn how to play the piano studies with a specialist, the yoga student studies yoga with the guru. You can get the spiritual knowledge of the internal guru with permission of Shaktipat. Kalidzhi experienced both. Like a burning candle lights unlit candles the Guru awakens the inner light of Kundalini in the students.
Kalidzhi received a very rare form of initiation - Shaktipat. Svamidzhi said: “Many asked for Shaktipat and waited for so long, but only Kalidzhi got it.” There are Kundalini Shaktipat and Shaktipat. Kundalini Shaktipat is a systematic way, similar to receiving a certificate at the end of each level. Shaktipat is the rarest dedication. Kalidzhi received the blessing of Shaktipat. She has the full spiritual knowledge. Kriyavati is one of manifestations of this knowledge. 5 January, 1980 Kali began to experience Kriyavati. Kriyavati is the most sacred way of getting yoga practices. Synchronized flow of yoga-asanas, pranayama and mudras spontaneously drives the body of Kalidzhi while she is in the meditative state (Trans Yoga of Samadhi). This inspiration has developed the Kriya Flows. And through such experiments the Kriya Flows continue developing to this day.

Yoga as a cult of healthy living

The cult of healthy lifestyle is becoming increasingly popular in various circles of society. Diet, different sports have become an effective opposition to crazy urban rhythm and stress. Thereupon, yoga has become extremely popular, having pushed fitness from a leadership position to the second place.
In many cities around the world, gradually multiple beautiful, modern and comfortable yoga studios begun opening one after another instead of semi-basement yoga-rooms. Famous designers started including clothes for yoga into their collections, many major brands use the image of yoga in their campaigns. All this has happened so quickly that the person who is going to do yoga, can get lost in the number of proposals, names of schools, techniques, methods, directions widely mentioned in the world web: Hatha Yoga, Ayengara Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga, Kundalini Yoga, Yoga-23, Tri-Yoga.
To assist a person, there are multiple print media: the shelves of book stores are literally overwhelmed with guides for yoga, biographies of world celebrities who have become adepts of Yoga, the great guru of yoga.

Most of those who starts training today consider yoga a miraculous cure for all ailments. And no matter how they are indignant at simplified approach to this ancient practice, being systematized as far back as in the V century B.C. by Indian wise man Patanjali, the statistics is implacable - Yoga is in great demand today, because this is not only more sparing than the fitness with its training apparatuses, but in practice, is very useful to the body.

Scientists confirms the fact that yoga is also a cure. One of the miracles of yoga is a wonderful cold endurance of adherents of one of the most secretive Tibetan practices - Thummo. The adherents of Thummo Yoga can even dry a wet sheet on the nude body at temperature below 20 degrees. The science explains that in fact the warm-blooded organisms are able to produce an unlimited quantity of heat on the cold by burning fat in the lungs. So, we can breathe in the sharp frost, instantly warming the air. Targeted at developing this ability one can achieve a phenomenal cold endurance, what the Tibetan yogis do.

The question of what yoga to choose is far from idle. Today, the most popular directions are Ayengara yoga and Ashtanga yoga. Ayengara is good because it suits everyone. There are no restrictions on age and physical training. It is static and is based on a proper construction of asanas. In Ashtanga yoga the asanas are performed in a dynamic sequence and synchronized with breathing. It focuses on the young and physically trained.

Even if you are doing a very gentle yoga, there are still some constraints related to health. By the way, a guarantee that you has come doing yoga to the right place is the mandatory division into groups by the level of complexity. But even if you are in the initial group, it does not mean that training will be very easy for you. Typically, at the first level the asanas are physically harder than at the next one, but they are not dangerous. Conversely, in the more advanced yoga the asanas may seem to be too easy, but one can begin only when the body is ready for this. In addition, many centers have special therapeutic classes: for pregnant women, for example, or for people who have problems with the spine.

Recently, Kundalini yoga is getting more and more fans. This is a complicated technology, that goes beyond the boundaries of the body on a mental level. Dynamic and static asanas in Kundalini yoga are accompanied by breathing techniques, meditation and singing of mantras, affecting not only the body but also the consciousness. It is believed that during the Kundalini-yoga classes, a powerful ejection of endorphine - hormone of happiness - occurs. Endorphine is not produced with simple physical exercises, it is allocated only when they are accompanied by internal concentration and specific respiration.
However, whatever yoga you do, a positive charge is provided to you. Nobody will deny that a healthy spirit is in a healthy body.

The International Yoga Federation Held A Regular Yoga-Sport World Championship in Spain

Hatha-yoga is an ancient spiritual practice, which via the work with body and breath allows "bringing out" a human consciousness to higher level of functioning.
There is no secrete that human mind and body are interrelated. The final goal of traditional yoga practice can be designated as spiritual self-actualization, Unity with Divinity.

Today, yoga takes on the second birth, and gradually its perception will deepen, because many highly embodied Indian teachers specially directed their disciples to the West with the words like: "People are waiting."
Also, as in India itself, in the West, there are different practices, different teachers, different levels of depth perception.
In today's world, there are a number of well-known hatha yoga schools, each of which presents its own style of practice.
In the West, the most famous is Ashtanga vinyasa yoga in the transfer of Shri K. Pattabhi Joyce and style of yoga developed by Sri B.K.S. Ayengar called for brevity as “Ayengar yoga”.
Both of these outstanding masters studied from a guru Sri Tirumalay Krishnamacharya (1888 - 1989), which in the early 1930's, opened Ygashala (yoga school) in South India town of Mysore. Krishnamacharya was a great connoisseur of Sanskrit, Indian religion, philosophy and literature, Ayurveda, astrology and other mystical subjects.
In addition to P. Joyce and B.K.S. Ayengar, the known disciples of Krishnamacharya are also his son T.K.V. Desikachar and the native of Riga, the daughter of a Swedish father and Russian mother - Indra Davy (her real name is Eugene Peterson, 1899-2002).

Different philosophies and training systems are based on different per se Spirit. The essence of the Rivalry Spirit is more peculiar to single combats used in training of competition with a partner. But in yoga, there is only one opponent - one's own imperfections, which are not in the others, but inside one's own essence, at the level of these or those coverings.

On the 9-17 of April, The International Yoga Festival took place in Milan.
First, the Olympic Yoga Sport competition took place. The participants demonstrated a specific set of asanas, and the members of the jury were choosing the one who, in their opinion, was the best to cope with a task. The criteria for selection were not only high technical level of performance, but also a calm attitude to what is happening. It was the calm and smiling by which the Indian guys predisposed the jury, although, of course, there were no equals of them in technique terms. In competition on artistic-yoga-sport a technique, artistry, costumes, music were estimated...

This competition is now more than two millennia. In ancient times, the masters, yogacharyas, sadhu gathered on so-called Kumbha-mely in the days of big festivals. In addition to asanas demonstration, they competed in Pranayama, and had philosophical debates. So, the competition is in blood of Indians.
Any Indian child is familiar with the philosophy of yoga since school years, and even sits for the corresponding examinations. As a sports discipline, yoga is a part of school and university, urban and national sports competitions.

The International Federation has been existing for more than 3 year. Its foundation was the «Vishwa Yoga Samsad» World Council of Yoga, founded in 1965. In Spain, the European Yoga Alliance supported by the Federation, annually holds the training course for professional teachers of yoga. Diploma issued by the end of this course is consistent with the college diploma, because the quality of training is very high.
The first official competitions on yoga were held in India. There are championship of India, Indian cup, national competitions held in each state. Age of participants is different, they can be representatives of different schools and directions, but united by one important idea: they believe that yoga is good!

Meditation and its types

Meditation is a practice of using certain methods or procedures that can cause the “trophotropic” condition in awake person. Although, there are many types of meditation, the presence of some stimulus or object, which the meditating person is focusing on, is common to all of its forms. Meditation techniques can therefore be classified according to the nature of the object of concentration. According to this criterion, there are four types of meditation.

Repetition in the mind.
In this case the object for concentration is some mental stimulus. A classic example of the mental facility to focus is the "mantra". Mantra is the word or phrase repeated over and over again, usually to oneself. Singing can also be included into this category. Mantra can be selected from a number of Sanskrit words. Herbert Bacon used the word "one" as a mantra for patients with hypertension. Repetition of poetic passages can also be considered a kind of mantra. Sometimes they use the text of folk songs as a mantra.

Repetition of physical action.
This object of concentration is related to focusing one's attention on any physical action. In ancient yoga (Hindu) way of meditation the attention is focused on recurring respiratory movements. Various forms of respiratory control of breaths and exhales counting (called pranayama) are the basis of one of the Hatha yoga forms. The public better knows another version of Hatha yoga that uses various postures (called Asanas). Some people use the East practice: round dances with repetitive movements. Ancient artists of the round dance are known as "dancing dervishes." Finally, the spread of jogging in the United States gave impetus to study this activity. One of the effects reported by some of these runners are experiences similar to meditative ones. The reason for this may be the regular breathing set during the jogging or monotonous sounds of feet touching the ground.

Focusing on the problem.
This object of concentration is an attempt to solve the problem including the paradoxical components. A classic example is dzen "koans”. In this case, one is given a paradoxical problem to solve. One of the most famous koan is: "How does the clap of one hand sound?

Visual concentration.
Here the object of concentration is the visual image. This may be a picture, candlelight, tree leaf, relaxing scene, or something else. "Mandala" is a geometric figure, a square inside a circle, symbolizing the unity of man and the universe. In eastern cultures, it is often used for visual concentration.

Will the Yoga Secrets patented?

India has decided to formalize ownership of the secrets of yoga, says the British edition of The Daily Mail. For this purpose a commission was set up consisting of the Indian gurus and 200 scientists who have to separately register each of the traditional gymnastics, and thus secure their rights to the copyright in those elements.

Thus, India plans to protect religious practices and associated rituals from the commercialization: income from paid yoga, which has become very popular in Europe and the U.S. in late 1960 - early 1970's, is estimated at 225 billion dollars. But in India the gurus teaching yoga do not take money for their services.

According to the publication, the growing number of western schools of yoga has led to increased demand for patent applications. For example, American and European schools are asked to register their activities not as the “teaching of yoga” but as the “spiritual and unique learning physical practices”. Only in the United States such schools have been given 130 patent licences and 150 patent certificates for the possession of the rights to this or that method of physical exercises. Moreover, 2300 new schools of yoga have been registered in America.

India believes that the registration of new practices, that are actually copying of traditional elements of yoga, and giving them out to be one's new ideas damages the ancient culture. The representative of Digital Library of Traditional Knowledge, which is the initiator of yoga poses patenting, said that their organization hopes to register up to 1500 postures of the Indian practice before the end of 2009.

Yoga Helps To Achieve Good Look And Healthy Body

When we hear the word "yoga", we imagine the pose of "lotus": crossed legs, straight back, hands on the knees, slow and rhythmic breath. But this is only one of various poses, which a body can be brought to during the exercises. Moreover, this is one of the initial poses, which helps concentrating on the body and breathing: a very slow breath in and a very slow breath out.
The “Newton” Monthly Publication has recently published the results of research by scientists from Milan University. During the experiment a group of yoga teaches, who have been teaching yoga for more than 4 years, was subjected to research. "The first results, - claimed the leader of research Arsenio Veikshteinas, - indicate that unlike those who leads sedentary life, people who do yoga have fat lower by 40%, muscle mass higher by 30-40%, stronger bones, and lower blood pressure ". In other words, this is an ideal kind of sport for people who suffer from high blood pressure.
It's well to note, that there are many kinds of different types of yoga, and multiple "branches" of one and the same base technique. In these versions not the position types are changed, but the order of doing exercises or the accent on definite poses, and also the time of being in this or that pose.
The discipline consists of poses (asanas) and movement (mudra), which besides the improvement of joints mobility and strengthening of muscles, stimulate charkas – the energetic centers related to different functions of organism and psychophysical condition.
It could seam that we talk about the "sitting sport". This ancient discipline of oriental origine provides not only a therapeutic, stimulating and cleaning effect to the internal, but (as it was mentioned above) beneficially influence on appearance, because a person who does yoga gets a well-shaped body. Taking different poses, the body and mind learn self-discipline and control. The body position is corrected by micro-movings, leading to the movement of muscles which usually are not used at all.
Yoga combines positive effect of two types of sport: aerobic – those which require physical endurance, and anaerobic – those which require brief but intense efforts (as weight-lifting).

Paul McCartney Fans Can Do Eye-Yoga Now

The British musician Sir James Paul McCartney has published a video in which he shows in details how to do so called “eye-yoga”. The famous singer was taught this unusual technique by an Indian man whom McCartney met in one Indian hotel.

The followers of this off-centre type of yoga state that such an exercise for eyes helps not only strengthening the eyes muscles and improving an eye sight, but also making for the whole body relaxation.

The exercises consist of eye movings from side to side, up and down, and changing of direction of eyeballs rotation.

The singer placed the video in Internet among his fans, for his art admirers to keep their sight in a good form.

«When I visited India, there was a guy in the hotel who taught me the eye-yoga. He told me the eye muscles are the same as all others, and to make them work good, one should train them», - said the musician.

“Naked” Yoga.

In spite of the fact that some psychologists, philosophers and upholders of healthy life-style have earlier suggested to their contemporaries to undress while doing exercises, the “naked” yoga has become popular in the world since 2004 thanks to husband and wife Nicole Daedone and Robert Kandell. Four years ago they founded and headed the "One Taste" Urban Retreat Center in San-Fransisco, CA.
Daedone and Kandell are surely a vivid embodiment of principles of their Center. Nicole became the "soul" of their family and creative union. Having seriously been engaged in theosophy, Nicole turned aside the apprenticeships which hierarchy put a body lower than soul. A young Daedone whose sexual experience was mainly taken from books, took a great interest in Viktor Baranko's proceeding, the author of "comprehensive orgasm".

Not posing such a global aim to herself, she developed her own system of sexual, spiritual and physical perfection on the basis of Hinduism, Buddhism, Cabbala and traditional Judaism, which she has always been interested in. A final stage of Nicole's scientific investigations became the meeting with her future husband, Robert Kandell, a "brain" and manager of their Center.

Robert, who was brought up in the family with strict Jewish traditions, had left the house till that time and was enjoying the freedom. A charming know-all Nicole tested her system on a nice young man, having suggested him the shortest way to join the "consciousness and sensuality". Kandell being in love with Nicole enjoyed the fruits of his darling's wisdom. When later she said him: "Robert, I had a sight. We need a center", Kandell answered unhesitatingly: "I agree".

During these years the "One Taste" has become unusually popular. The followers of "naked” yoga come here to take part in erotic readings and trainings. The eye-witnesses affirm that in 15 minutes after lesson has started, "students" forget about their nakedness, being aspired to go as further as possible in the way of self-perfection.

Yoga for Pregnant

As many intelligent people say, using gestation to lose flesh by training is the same as to put oral contraceptives off. There is proper time and place to everything in the world. Unripe apple is tasteless; the overripe or rotten one is tasteless too. Only ripe and timely plucked apple is tasty and good.
Exercises during the pregnancy is aimed to quite another things in comparison with other trainings in public groups.
Purpose number one of your public trainings is health of YOUR body and sometimes – of YOUR mind. Purpose number one during the pregnancy – be this yoga or any other technique – is health of body and mind of YOUR CHILD.
You have had and will have all your life to train your body, while your child has only 9 months. Even not 9 but 6 months, because it's recommended to start physical training since the first trimester of pregnancy. And even not 6 but 5, because a woman will hardly do any exercises during the 9th month.
Only five months!
You could have a question then – Is it necessary to engage in yoga for pregnancy at all? May be it'd be better to sleep more or to work to keep your career during this period?
The answer is simple. If you wanted this child with all your heart, and you are expecting his coming as the greatest gift from unknown benefactor, good gift, which lays the greatest responsibility on you, inexplicably necessary for you as an air – then you will be glad to have these 5 months to work with your baby, and those 5 minutes when hearing and listening to doctors, straining and relaxing your body, you calmly and confidently will bring to this world that one who will help you become adult...
Five long months! :)
Let's clarify the purpose of yoga group for pregnant or pre-natal (antenatal) training? What is meant "to be ready for childbirth"? An interesting thing that you must do nothing to make your body ready for delivery. That's it. Nothing. Everything happens absolutely normal and in itself, without your interested participation.
Do you control the process of pre-natal fetation? I mean, can you control the process, influence on it in some way? Slow down, speed up, direct to another way, stop it? No. You can just watch. Or interrupt it roughly. Watch how your body is changing. How your mood is changing. Your perception. Health.
That's why, when it's time to deliver, your body will be ready to give the birth to a child, and no one can prepare it better by any exercises.
So, why then you need yoga for pregnant?
For very simple reasons. Pregnancy and childbirth are absolutely natural processes. But it's a test for your body. Nature does everything for you to pass this test. But to help yourself is always good.
A rare woman who conceives is completely healthy nowadays. At least at the level of her body. It's normal when there are some moderate physical activities in the life of individual. This is normal. This is good. But we used to look at people developing their bodies either as at sportsmen making money on this, or strangers who have time and money for such an eccentricity.
Doing physical and respiratory yoga exercises during your pregnancy and after delivery will allow you to less suffer from pain in your spine – the centre of gravity of your body shifts forward after all, the spinal muscles strain themselves more than usual. More open and worked over pelvis will allow having less painful delivery. Being familiar with respiratory exercises will allow you not to lose your consciousness and suffocate during the parturition, when the body breathes rather strongly. Regular presence of certain discomfort feeling in your body while doing this or that exercises will allow you to be ready for psychological pain, if any will occur. You will not be in panic. You will hear your doctors, their instructions, and be able to perform them.
Choosing yoga you help yourself.
